'Craftsmanship is the heartbeat of human time' - Octavio Paz

Martin grew up in St. Louis around the carpenter trade. His great grandfather immigrated from Germany as a cabinetmaker and later founded a building business which was responsible for the construction of several St. Louis landmarks a the turn of the 20th century. His grandfather followed in the business as did his father and uncle, who were both carpenters.

Martin worked as a carpenter, then started his own cabinetmaking business that evolved into furniture making and woodworking. His work can be found in residences, churches and businesses across the country.

He and his wife, Gwen, live in a house he built on a beautiful wooded site overlooking Moniteau Bluff. They have lived in rural Missouri for thirty years. The property is protected by their big yellow lab 'Bosch'.

The clients are raving:

"In a word: Wonderful. He is one of a vanishing breed, or a very rare breed, who put craftsmanship and quality at the top of their list. Everything else comes after that."
Rex Campbell

"The functional artworks give us such a visual pleasure, like the other art in our house. We will treasure the furniture for the rest of our lives."
